Lions Club dish-up the money The Clacton Lions Club and 29 local restaurants got together to raise funds for the new lifeboat house under construction in Hastings Avenue. Each restaurant donated a meal for two and the Lions organized a giant raffle with 29 first prizes. Members of the Lions Club joined lifeboat volunteers and crew to check on progress at the new site and present a cheque for £1,500 towards new equipment and training. The building is progressing well and will be a feature of the Martello Bay seafront.

Boathouse update
After a couple of weeks
of frost and cold daytime temperatures, the concrete has been poured. 20
lorry loads weighing nearly 300tons are covered with sheeting against the
rain.

Work is Underway
|
Work has started on the new lifeboat house site in Hastings Avenue, Clacton. The new building which is next to the Coastguard station will house both lifeboats and provide up to the minute training and crew facilities. A gift shop and viewing area are included in the plans giving better access to the public than at the present boathouse on the pier. The lifeboats will be launched across the beach using specially built tractors. This means more crew will be needed and recruiting has already begun. Having both boats under one roof will be a big advantage, and new facilities such as workshops and changing rooms will make life easier for the crew. It is hoped the building will be completed in the autumn. The appeal to fund a new Fast Inshore Boat for the station has now closed, the target of £120,000 being reached sooner than expected.
