Generosity of CADS gets a RNLI crew member kitted out

Local drama group Clacton Amateur Dramatic Society (CADS) recently donated £1,011 to the Clacton RNLI.  Each year the group puts on three productions at the West Cliff Theatre and the money was raised by donating 50p from each ticket sold from last season’s productions.

The cheque was handed over at a recent visit to the Clacton lifeboat station by Ron Bone Chairman of CADS, to the stations Operations Manager Rob Smith. Rob said “thanks to the generosity of people such as CADS we are able to continue our life-saving work. This money will equip one of our crew with a full sea-going kit. It is very satisfying for us when a local group gives us such support and we can show them how the donation will be used.”

Jackie Fairweather CADS Publicity Officer said “we are delighted that so much money was raised and we would like to thank our loyal audiences who came to the shows; without their support we would not be able to donate this money to such worthwhile and valuable part of our community.”

CADS now in their 63rd season is busy rehearsing for its next production Cash on Delivery, a comedy/farce by Michael Cooney.  The play is about a young man who has been defrauding the DSS for many years, trying to avoid prosecution.

It opens on Wednesday 24th until Saturday 27th March 2010, nightly at 7.30pm with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm at the West Cliff Theatre. Tickets are priced from £6, 12-16 years olds half price and for the matinee, groups over 10 or more will be half price. To book tickets call the box office 01255 433344 or visit www.westcliffclacton.org

It contains adult humor and is NOT suitable for under 12’s.

Pig Race Brings Home the Bacon

The Clacton-on-Sea branch of the RNLI held a pig race night on Saturday 23rd January at Chester Camp and raised £600 to help keep the boats afloat.
The evening was organized by branch chairman David Porter with the races run by the Clacton Lions Club pig race team.
A good crowd enjoyed the eight races and the pork sausage and chips supper went down well.
Many thanks to everyone who supported the event and especially those who
sponsored the races and pigs.

The photo shows David Porter with Lions Club members Adrian Robinson and John Cross.
